Special customized walking tours ::

ExploreMore prides itself on being able to arrange guided tailor-made tours to suit everyone’s particular interests and requirements, for a day, a week or longer. This provides you with the chance to tell us exactly what you would like to do and when – and we’ll take care of the rest.

As with the set tours, your guide on customised walking tours is Jenny, who is a qualified Mountain Leader and whose extensive local knowledge enables her to organize tours that take you well off the beaten track. As well as having experience of walking and trekking in western Crete, she is a qualified Mountain Leader and a member of the British Mountaineering Council, The Mountaineering Council of Scotland, Mountain Leader Training Association and the Hania Mountain Club.

ExploreMore's guided tours range over the foothills and High Desert of the White Mountains and the numerous south coast gorges and paths. Our aim is to explore the lesser known reaches of the area and to avoid the over-frequented gorges.

But whatever routes we take will be worked out in consultation with you on the basis of your particular requirements and interests.

In springtime, for example, the abundance of wild flowers on the hillsides and high mountain pastures is an unending source of delight for those interested in botany – meadows carpeted with crown anemones and dotted with wild tulips and sand crocuses. Botanical identification and photography – but not, of course, picking the flowers! – can appeal to all members of the family, old and young alike.

Birdwatchers, too, can enjoy the varied birdlife of the area – breeding birds include blue rock thrush, Rüppell's warbler, black-eared wheatear and woodlark, while the high mountains feature various raptors, including the majestic golden eagle and, outstandingly, lammergeiers or bearded vultures (known locally as ta kokkala), one of the last refuges in Europe of this immense bird.

We are also planning a special “raptor day” - to be led by a local ornithologist involved in the conservation of the bearded vulture.

Other special interests we cater to include horse-riding, rock-climbing, painting and yoga. But if there’s any other interest area or activity you would like to be included in your walking tour, don’t hesitate to ask – and we’ll see what we can arrange.

Accommodation will be arranged according to the number of people in the group, the time of year and the type of walking holiday you are interested in (e.g. trekking will include nights spent in suitable accommodation elsewhere). In general, you will have the choice of hotel or studio accommodation in the area.
